Jumbo Sushi

One day I was actually early to work (for once) so I decided to take the long way and check out some of the other streets around the office of my new job in the Upper East Side to look for new lunchtime options. One of the places I found was a small fish market that also had a sushi menu. I noticed that the entire place had not even a faint smell of fishiness. This was a bit awkward becasue I was surrounded by cases of fish, but it caused me to have pretty high expectations of the place.

It was perfect… A small fish narrow fish market with about 4 seats that also serves sushi. It was like a hidden secret… and I love hidden spots as much as the next New Yorker.

Sadly, just because a place has good seafood to take home with you doesn’t mean they also ahve good sushi. While the fish they sell is probably extremely fresh (priced accordingly) and would be great to bring home, the fish they used for their sushi had an odd texture and didn’t taste nearly as fresh as I would expect sushi to be. I did take into account it was lunchtime sushi on a wednesday and not a fancy place for dinner on the weekend, but it still left much to be desired. 2 rolls and 5 pieces of your choice for $13 is a pretty good deal, but the quality just wasn’t there. Also, they seemed to use some different type of seaweed paper because the one they used was oddly stretchy and annoying to bite into.

Alas, the search for a good sushi lunch in the upper east side is still on going.
