Kasa Indian Eatery
So as I mentioned in my prior post, I just got back from a week long trip to San Francisco. I was expecting some great dim sum, other Asian eats, Top Dog in Berkeley, and a very unique dinner at Supper Club, but the last thing I expected to see out here was a kati roll joint. With a pretty big Indian community in South Bay, I have never heard anything about Indian food in the city.
Kasa Indian Eatery is a new place in the Castro District that a friend of mine wanted to check out since she had never been. We both walked out pretty impressed with what we got.
I liked it because it wasn’t nearly as greasy as what I have gotten in NYC. That could be a good thing or bad thing depending on your point of view, but for me I definitely appreciated the lighter roti’s here. They also offered a greater variety of fillings and the ability to have everything in a thali instead of being rolled up. I got the lamb curry and the chicken tikka masala rolls with extra chili’s just to make things interesting. To cool things off I got a mango lassi in which they put some green cardamon as an extra twist. The chicken tikka masala kati roll was excellent. The extra chili’s they put in gave it a great spicy kick. The lamb curry kati roll was good and I might get it again if I ever go back, but I’d probably like to try the other options first. The mango lassi was a great coolant to all the spices and I really liked the addition of the green cardamon.
For vegetarians they offer a aloo (potato) or paneer roll, along with a rotating vegetarian filling of the day. I can’t vouch for those though because I didn’t try it.
As a visitor and resident of Manhattan where I can get kati roll’s any time I want, it is unlikely I’ll be back. But if I lived in San Francisco I would definitely plan multiple return trips.

Sounds like they would give the Indian restaurants in Curry Hill a run for their money . . .
